    3. Machinability and Fabrication

    Machining Difficulty: Inconel alloys are highly challenging to machine due to their rapid work-hardening rate. Machining bar stock requires specific low speeds, heavy cuts, and high-performance tooling.

    Heat Treatment: High-strength grades are typically machined in the soft (solution-annealed) condition and then undergo precise aging (precipitation-hardening) to achieve their final, demanding mechanical property specifications.
