Incoloy Alloy Bar Description
Incoloy alloys are a group of nickel-iron-chromium materials engineered to provide a balance of high-temperature mechanical strength, resistance to specific corrosive acids, and good cost-effectiveness. Incoloy bar and rod stock are primarily used for manufacturing high-strength fasteners, critical furnace hardware, pump shafts, and valve trim in chemical, petrochemical, and oil/gas industries.
Core Incoloy Alloy Bar/Rod Grades Comparison
The Incoloy bar stock range focuses on either high creep strength for industrial heating (800H/HT) or combined high strength and superior aqueous corrosion resistance (825, 925).

General Performance Characteristics of Incoloy Alloy Bar and Rod
1. High-Temperature Mechanical Integrity
Creep Resistance: Grades 800H/HT are specifically engineered with controlled carbon and grain size to maximize creep and stress rupture strength, essential for long-term load-bearing parts in high-temperature furnaces.
Thermal Management (900 Series): The 900 series (903, 909) are designed to maintain dimensional stability due to their low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), critical for minimizing thermal stress in complex aerospace assemblies.
2. Corrosion and SCC Resistance
Aqueous Corrosion (825, 925): The high nickel and molybdenum content provides strong defense against pitting, crevice corrosion, and aggressive non-oxidizing acids.
Oxidation and Carburization (330, 800 Series): High nickel and chromium ensure excellent performance against metal dusting, oxidation, and carburization prevalent in industrial heat treatment and furnace applications.
SCC Resistance: High nickel content across the entire family ensures strong resistance to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking.
3. Machinability and Fabrication
Work Hardening: All Incoloy grades exhibit high work-hardening rates. Proper tooling and slow speeds are required for successful machining of bar stock, particularly the age-hardened grades (925, 900 Series).
Heat Treatment: High-strength grades (925, 900 Series) are typically machined in the solution-annealed condition and then precisely precipitation-hardened (aged) to achieve final, peak mechanical properties.
Application Value of Incoloy Bar and Rod
Incoloy bar and rod stock are chosen for specialized components that require a critical combination of mechanical strength, thermal stability, and specific resistance to industrial corrosion:
Oil and Gas (Sour Service): High-strength fasteners, wellhead components, and shafts in extremely corrosive high-pressure H2S wells (945, 925).
Aerospace & Defense: Structural bolts, engine casings, and precision instrument parts requiring controlled thermal expansion (900 Series).
Industrial Heating: Furnace bolts, fixtures, and structural members requiring high-temperature creep resistance and resistance to oxidation (800H/HT, 330).
Chemical Processing: Pump shafts, valve trim, and agitator assemblies handling aggressive acids and solvents (825, Alloy 20, 25-6MO).
